Custom Facebook View is a greasemonkey script for removing the rendering of things I consider to be clutter on Facebook. It doesn't help increase the performance of Facebook (as the page is fully downloaded before greasemonkey scripts are run), but it should help improve your personal experience on the site. You may also be interested in the Basic Facebook Apps script which removes all application boxes from viewed profiles except those on a whitelist (unlike this script that works under a blacklist philosophy).
What it does
- Removes Facebook generated (not necessarily App Generated) Share links
- Removes sponsor and publicity boxes from the main page (including side and bottom ads)
- Removes a number of Application boxes from profiles (both Facebook generated and 3rd party)
- These are documented as to which line will remove what application so feel free to customize it. Also use the comment form below if you have apps you think should be added. (I'll be adding more on a when I have time basis)
Next Version
As hardcoding application numbers into the script is a bit of a pain, and currently a losing battle with the rate that clutter applications seem to be developed there, I'll be looking into methods of using greasemonkey preferences, and enabling the user to change the list of hidden apps on the fly using a checkbox or something. I hope to leverage some of facebook's own javascript in order to maintain the same look & feel.
Troubleshooting
Please let me know if you run into issues using this greasemonkey script. (i.e. Removes too little content or too much content, etc).
